A rabbi stealing a wheelchair?

The cover story in this week’s The Jewish Journal of Los Angeles is “The Mystery of the Rabbi and the Missing Wheelchair,” by Jonah Lowenfeld, about a “rabbi-for-hire” who was accused of stealing the wheelchair of a 96-year-old woman.

Hours after the article about Alan Abrams, who in 2009 had founded Kehillat Emek haMidbar, a short-lived congregation in Scottsdale, was posted online yesterday, Abrams announced on his blog that he has “made a decision to take leave from the Rabbinate for an unspecified time.”

Lowenfeld blogged further about the post today.
